While I was having my six a day at my favorite pub, the waitress I like to hit on related the following tale: a very tall, very hairy man came in with a big bulky laptop, and asked to use their phone. He placed the phone’s receiver into a weird plastic thing that was connected to his computer, at which point the phone started making all kinds of weird noises. The hairball typed assiduously for ten or twenty minutes, and then began to order Guinness after Guinness, ranting about Decanus Picto, and claiming to be the world’s foremost UFOlogist, until he finally fell on the floor.

The height, the hair, the “classic” technology, and the anti-Picto ranting make it obvious enough, but the waitress was able to provide additional corroborating details that confirm for me that this tall, hairy man was in fact The long-lost Shadow.

This is a night shot (it was dark in there) of the spot on the floor where The Shadow “napped” before “waking refreshed,” and strolling leisurely out the door to who knows where.

Observant or sober readers may recognize this “bulky laptop” and “weird plastic thing” as the Epson HX-20 and the acoustic coupler used by the hacker of Picto’s site this January. It appears, then, that our hacker is The Shadow. It is unclear what his specific motivation for hacking the site would be (other than that he’s just an asshole), but given his past behavior, it would not be entirely out of character.

As mentioned in a previous article, we here at BZ do not like The Shadow. But as he is still under contract, and as we are extremely curious as to why he hacked www.DecanusPicto.com, we will station an undercover BZ soldier in PK O’Ryan’s round the clock in an effort to get an interview with him and find out where he has been and what he has been doing. I myself will take the first shift.
